Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has called on Ghanaians to rally behind the national team as they prepare to launch their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Panama.
In an emotional message titled “My People,” the Ghana legend described the Black Stars as the nation’s pride and “only product,” congratulating the 26-man squad selected for the tournament and expressing strong belief in their ability to represent the country with distinction on football’s biggest stage.
Gyan appealed for unity among Ghanaians both at home and in the diaspora, stressing the importance of collective backing for the team.
He noted that football remains one of the most powerful tools for national cohesion and urged supporters to stand firmly behind the Black Stars regardless of outcomes.
He also acknowledged key stakeholders involved in Ghana’s World Cup journey, including President John Mahama, Sports Minister Kofi Adams, the Ghana Football Association led by Kurt Okraku, the media, and fans, commending what he described as a shared national effort in preparing the team for the tournament.
According to his message, the focus should remain on unity and pride, with Gyan urging the players to give their all on the pitch and make the country proud when they step onto the field in Toronto.

Ghana open their Group L campaign against Panama on Wednesday, June 17, at BMO Field in Toronto, a fixture attracting significant attention as the Black Stars aim for a strong start in a group that also features England and Croatia.
The team has already arrived in Canada and is expected to hold a mandatory training session ahead of the encounter.
After facing Panama, Ghana will meet England at Gillette Stadium on June 23 before concluding their group-stage fixtures against Croatia on June 27, with hopes of reaching the knockout stages for the first time since 2010.
