Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has called on the Black Stars to open their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a victory over Panama.

The four-time African champions begin their Group L journey on Wednesday, June 17, at BMO Field in Toronto, where they face the Central American side in their opening fixture.

Ghana’s preparations have been met with mixed expectations following a string of unconvincing results, but Daara believes an opening win is vital to set the tone for their tournament.

He stressed that securing all three points against Panama would significantly boost the team’s chances of progressing to the knockout stages.

“It is crucial for Black Stars to beat Panama to secure all three points to keep their chances of playing in the knockout phase alive,” Daara told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

The Black Stars have already arrived in Toronto and are scheduled to hold a mandatory training session ahead of the clash.

After their opener, Ghana will face England at Gillette Stadium on June 23 before wrapping up their group stage campaign against Croatia on June 27, as they target a place in the knockout rounds.
