Students of Ufakuja D/A primary school in the Kpandi district of the Northern Region now study under trees.
This is due to the dilapidated nature of their structure which housed the students. According to reports, the school built in 2006 has not seen any renovation.
In interview with Adom News, the headmaster of the school, Nlambom Philip said the situation was not only compromising access and quality of education delivery, but also exposes the school children to harsh weather conditions.
“I was posted here in September 2018, and the very day I came to this community the spirit and love I have for the teaching disappeared before I knew it due to how bad the situation is.”
“Now both students and teachers depend on the trees around for classroom and staff common room shelter.”

Mr Nlabom added that, the lack of furniture in many basic schools compelling the school pupils of such schools to lie on their stomach to study.

Some of the students who spoke to Adom News said their performance in class have been affected
“The sun ray scotches us very badly around 10-11:00am and we find it very difficult to concentrate in class. Sometimes our teachers are even forced to end the lesson because of the scorching sun”.
The students and teachers are appealing to the government to as a matter of urgency provide them furniture, teaching and learning materials to enable them enjoy lesson as their colleagues in big cities.
