Residents of Broadekwano and Asisiriwa in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region are gripped by fear following a violent confrontation between the two communities that has left two young men dead and three others critically injured.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, has heightened tensions between the two communities, with police deployed to the area to prevent further violence and possible reprisal attacks.
Speaking to the media, the Assembly Member for Asisiriwa, Prince Boateng, said the violence stemmed from a dispute between a young man from Asisiriwa and another from Broadekwano, which escalated rapidly.
“Some youth from Broadekwano allegedly launched attacks on residents of Asisiriwa, destroying property and looting items along the streets. The Asisiriwa youth acted in self-defence, claiming the attackers targeted anyone they encountered,” he alleged.
He further alleged that two of the attackers were apprehended and lynched by the Asisiriwa youth during the confrontation.
In a related development, a commercial sprinter bus belonging to a resident of Asisiriwa was set ablaze after the driver transported passengers to Broadekwano.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident as security is beefed up.
