Ghana international Tariq Lamptey has set his sights on rediscovering his best form after completing a move to English Championship side Queens Park Rangers ahead of the new season.
The 26-year-old defender joined QPR after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that disrupted his spell at Italian Serie A club Fiorentina.
Lamptey moved to Fiorentina from Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion on a three-year contract, but his time in Italy was cut short after the serious injury led to the mutual termination of his contract.
Despite enduring a difficult period on the sidelines, the Ghanaian right-back remains determined to return to the level that previously made him one of Europe’s most exciting young full-backs.
“My recovery has gone well, and I’m not too far away now. I’m looking forward to joining the boys,” Lamptey told the QPR website.
“Throughout my football journey, I’ve always been resilient.
“You can’t really predict what’s going to happen, but you can only put your best foot forward and prepare as well as possible. That’s what I try to do.”
Lamptey also highlighted the qualities he hopes to bring to his new club, describing himself as an energetic and committed player who enjoys contributing at both ends of the pitch.
“I’m hardworking, I like to get up and down, I bring a lot of energy and hopefully I’ll keep the fans on the edge of their seats,” he said.
“I’m tough in the tackle, I love one-v-one situations, both defensively and offensively. I just love playing the game.”
Born in Hillingdon, England, Lamptey began his career at Chelsea, where he progressed through the academy before making his Premier League debut against Arsenal in 2019.
He joined Brighton & Hove Albion in 2020 and went on to make more than 120 appearances for the Seagulls before securing a move to Fiorentina.
The defender, who represented Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, has earned 11 senior caps for the Black Stars and will now be hoping his move to QPR marks the beginning of a successful return to top form.
