Amoah completed the move shortly after Asante Kotoko’s 5–1 defeat to Wydad Athletic Club in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie, a timing that surprised both the club’s fans and followers of Ghanaian football.

Speaking to Sporty FM, Chibsah, a former Black Stars midfielder, cautioned that many Ghanaian players moving to North African clubs often do so at a stage that may hinder their development.

“Most players who move to North Africa do so at the wrong time, and that is why they struggle,” he said. “I wish Albert Amoah well, but it will be difficult.”

Amoah, who joined Kotoko from Great Olympics last season, quickly became one of the team’s standout performers. He played 30 matches, scoring 16 goals, and emerged as a reliable forward for the club.

On the continental stage, he also impressed, netting twice in four CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round matches, although Kotoko was ultimately eliminated from the competition.

Yusif Chibsah opposes calls to sack Otto Addo ahead of 2026 World Cup https://www.adomonline.com/yusif-chibsah-opposes-calls-to-sack-otto-addo-ahead-of-2026-world-cup/ Fri, 17 Oct 2025 08:27:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2589470 Former Ghana international Yusif Chibsah has dismissed calls to relieve Otto Addo of his duties as Black Stars head coach ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Addo, who faced heavy criticism following Ghana’s failure to progress at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), successfully guided the Black Stars to World Cup qualification. The team topped their group with 25 points, sealing their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Comoros.

Despite securing seven wins in eight matches, some sections of the fans and pundits have called for Addo’s dismissal, with the Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, labelling him a ‘lucky coach’.

However, Chibsah, currently serving as Head of Player Relations at the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, insists the coach should remain in charge.

“Otto Addo has delivered his core mandate by qualifying the team for the World Cup, so why sack him?” Chibsah asked.

“Coaches are assessed based on performance and results, and if Otto Addo had done that, why sack him? Throughout the qualifiers, we scored 22 goals, with Jordan Ayew having a goal involvement of 14 goals, which is good for the team.

“I believe he must be retained, and for continuity, he must lead the team to the World Cup. At least he has been there before, and I believe he will learn from his mistakes, but I believe we must support him because football is a collective sport,” he added.

Addo’s qualification marks a historic milestone, making him the first coach to lead the Black Stars to consecutive World Cup appearances. Ghana will learn their group-stage opponents on December 5.

CAF CC: Wydad AC are beatable – Yusif Chibsah tells Asante Kotoko https://www.adomonline.com/caf-cc-wydad-ac-are-beatable-yusif-chibsah-tells-asante-kotoko/ Fri, 17 Oct 2025 08:08:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2589462 Head of Player Relations at the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), Yusif Chibsah, has expressed confidence that Asante Kotoko can secure a win against Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club (WAC).

The Ghana Premier League heavyweights are set to host Wydad in the first leg of the preliminary round on Sunday, October 19, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Chibsah, a former Kotoko midfielder, described the encounter as an opportunity for revenge, recalling the 2002 final where Wydad denied Kotoko a trophy.

“It’s going to be a difficult game, but for Asante Kotoko, it’s a revenge. They snatched a trophy from Kotoko in 2002. Kotoko has never lost to them in 90 minutes of football, but I believe it is not trying Kotoko. Kotoko has beaten WAC before I it’s beyond this team,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

Chibsah added that while North African clubs are known for their strong investment and disciplined play, beating Wydad is entirely possible.

“I strongly believe WAC is beatable, and Asante Kotoko must be able to do that. The North African clubs have a way of doing their football. They invest, and they have qualified, but I believe Kotoko can win,” he added.

Kick-off for the game is scheduled for 15:00 GMT.

Speaking at the 3rd edition of Robert Smith Law Group’s Law for Society Public Seminar over the weekend at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, the former Asante Kotoko and King Faisal midfielder, entreated players to be patient and cautious in contract negotiations.

“As a footballer contract negotiations are very important because it involves a lot,” Chibsah, who is now a FIFA intermediary agent said.

“You have to be cautious and patient because your agent will have to negotiate on your behalf and sometimes you would want more while your agent feels it is fine but it is all about understanding each other. Being cautious and patient is very key and I entreat every footballer and young player to note that,” he added.

Chibsah, currently manages Asante Kotoko goalkeeper, Ibrahim Danlad, and other Ghana Premier League players.

The 3rd edition of Robert Smith Law Group’s Law for Society Public Seminar was held in partnership with Asempa FM.

Nana Yaw Amponsah must be assessed before … – Yusif Chibsah https://www.adomonline.com/nana-yaw-amponsah-must-be-assessed-before-yusif-chibsah/ Wed, 31 May 2023 14:57:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2255299 Asante Kotoko legend, Yusif Chibsah, believes the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Nana Yaw Amponsah, must be assessed to determine the work he has done so far at the club.

The young football administrator was named as the CEO of the club in August 2021.

The tenure of Mr Amponsah ends this year and it is unknown if his stay at the club as the CEO will be extended.

However, Chibsah believes the Board must assess the work done by the 2019 Ghana Football Association presidential aspirant if he will be sacked or maintained.

According to him, the assessment will determine if the club has seen an improvement under Nana Yaw Amponsah.

“I can’t determine whether Nana Yaw Amponsah should stay or leave as the CEO of the club but I think he must be assessed first by the Board of Directors and that it will determine if he has improved the club or not,” he told Mavis Amanor on ‘Agokansie Nkommo’ on Adom TV.

“You cannot ask him to stay or leave without the assessment and so for me, I think he must be assessed before his mandate will be extended. Continuity is also important,” he added.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko have been poor in the ongoing season and currently sit 4th on the pile with 48 points with two games to end the season.

The defending champions will be hosted by Accra Lions before wrapping up their campaign with a home game against Dreams FC.

‘Agokansie Nkommo’ airs on Adom TV every Sunday at 12:00 PM.

Selfishness and greediness hampering Asante Kotoko progress – Chibsah https://www.adomonline.com/selfishness-and-greediness-hampering-asante-kotoko-progress-chibsah/ Wed, 31 May 2023 13:20:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2255256 Asante Kotoko legend, Yusif Alhassan Chibsah, believes selfishness and greediness are hampering the progress of the club.

The Porcupine Warriors, who are defending champions, have been poor in the ongoing 2022/23 Ghana Premier League.

With two games to end the season, Kotoko sit 4th on the pile with 48 points despite the change in technical personnel.

According to Chibsah, it is about time the fanbase, management and board stay united for the interest of the club.

“The tussle within Asante Kotoko is affecting the performance of the players. Sometimes there are a lot of factors. It could be internal and external factors but if you look at Asante Kotoko now, nobody knows what the issue is and it has been happening every year,” he told Mavis Amanor on ‘Agokansie Nkommo’ on Adom TV.

“For me, I think there should be unity among the fanbase, the management and the board. It is one club and for me, it is about selfishness that is hampering the progress of the club which should not happen.

“Anybody who comes to the club should not come in with their personal agenda but rather, stay united and help the club to progress. I strongly believe that if there is unity among the fanbase and the management and the board, Asante Kotoko will come good,” he added.

Asante Kotoko will be hosted by Accra Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium before wrapping their campaign with a home game against Dreams FC at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Agokansie Nkommo airs on every Sunday at 12:00 PM.

Yusif Chibsah reveals how he became football agent (Video) https://www.adomonline.com/yusif-chibsah-reveals-how-he-became-football-agent-video/ Mon, 29 May 2023 16:19:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2254445 Former Ghana international, Yusif Chibsah, has told Adom TV how he was motivated to become a football agent.

The 39-year-old is regarded as one of the finest midfielders in the country.

Chibsah is now a FIFA intermediary after hanging his boots. He now manages Kotoko goalkeeper, Ibrahim Danlad, among several local and international players.

According to him, the players he mentored during his playing days inspired him to become a Fifa football agent.

“When I was about to leave Ljungskile SK, I used to even mentor players while I was playing in Sweden. The likes of Majeed Waris, Daniel Amartey and some other players that I managed came to me and pushed me to this agency business,” he said during an interview on AGOKANSIE NKOMMO.

“They felt I am already doing a lot so why don’t I go into it full-time so I gave it a thought and decided to give it a try and it worked because right away, players started joining my agency. I decided to go back to banking and business because that was what I studied.

“My club at the time did not agree because I had two years left on my contract but we had an understanding and I left.”

Quizzed if the football agency pays, he said, “I will say it pays. It is a job that you have two windows in a year so every six months, you are sure you can broker a deal.

“It is not only money for me but the joy and passion is what drives me,” he added.

Chibsah, who is a former King Faisal and Asante Kotoko midfielder, is famously remembered for captaining Ghana’s Olympic team, who exited in the first round of the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, having finished in third place in Group B and was also the captain of the Ghana Meteors in the 2003 All Africa Games in Abuja that won the bronze medal.

Why Ghana has struggled to qualify for Olympics Games – Chibsah https://www.adomonline.com/why-ghana-has-struggled-to-qualify-for-olympics-games-chibsah/ Mon, 29 May 2023 16:01:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2254506 Former Ghana international, Yusif Chibsah, has called on the technical handlers of the Black Meteors to select the right players for the upcoming 2023 CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The West African country has been housed in Group A alongside host country, Morocco, Guinea and Congo while Egypt, Mali Gabon and Niger are housed in Group B.

The three finalists will qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Speaking on AGOKANSIE NKOMMO on Adom TV, the former Asante Kotoko midfielder revealed why the country has struggled to qualify for the Olympic Games.

“The major problem has been grassroots football and it was not alive until Kurt Okraku and his administration started improving on that,” he said.

“If you don’t get the fundamentals right, I am not sure we will be able to win anything,” he added.

Chibsah, however, advised how Ghana can qualify for the Olympics Games next year.

“We have qualified for the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations and the three finalists will qualify for the Olympic Games. I will plead with the technical handlers to invite the right players.

“Players that can help them achieve their mandate because it has been a while since Ghana qualified for the Olympic Games.

“We came close the last time but our qualification collapsed but this time around, I believe with the right players, we can qualify,” he added.

Chibsah was the last player that captained Ghana’s Olympic team who exited in the first round of the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, having finished in third place in Group B.

He also captained the Black Meteors in the 2003 All Africa Games in Abuja where they won the bronze medal.

The 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will take place between 24 June to 08 July 2023 in the cities of Rabat and Tangier.

Group A matches will be held at Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex while Group B matches will take place at the Grand Stade de Tanger, in Tangier.

Chris Hughton urged to build Black Stars around young players https://www.adomonline.com/chris-hughton-urged-to-build-black-stars-around-young-players/ Tue, 16 May 2023 14:26:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2250111 Former Ghana midfielder, Yusif Alhassan Chibsah, has urged Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton to focus on building a team that can be relied on for years.

Hughton signed a 21-month deal in March and recorded a win and a draw in his first two games against Angola in back to back games in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers.

The Black Stars will return to action next month for their matchday five fixture against Madagascar, followed by a home game against the Central African Republic (CAR) in the final round of qualifiers in September.

The former Asante Kotoko midfielder is confident the team will record a win in the final two games but has urged the technical team to focus on building a team for the future.

Yusif Chibsah

“While we expect victories from the two games, some of us look beyond just winning,” Chibsah expressed to Citi Sports.

“We want to see a formidable team that we can rely on for years, not just for immediate success. It is important to win games, as that is what Ghanaians expect from the coach.

“We want Chris Hughton to build a strong team that we can rely on for the next two to three years. The majority of the current squad consists of young players, about 70-80 per cent, including the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Osman Bukari, and others. Let’s build the team around these players and establish a foundation that allows them to play together for the next three or four years.”

With an average age of 24 years and seven months, Ghana’s national team was ranked as the youngest squad in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, surpassing the United States of America (25 years and two months) and Ecuador (25 years and six months).

Chris Hughton aims to guide the four-time Afcon champions to the next edition of the tournament, scheduled for January next year.

The team currently sits atop Group E with 8 points.
