There have been reports that the Bank is working to introduce the coins – samples of which have been circulated on social media platforms.

Speaking to Joy Business, the Director for Currency Management at the BoG, Dominic Owusu said the reports are false

He pointed out that the BoG will always embark on an extensive public and media education before it introduces new notes or coins into circulation.

“When there is a currency issuance or change, the Bank of Ghana will come with an appropriate press release to inform the public. We saw on social media that the central bank will issue a ¢500 note or coin but the bank has not done any such thing. So it’s not true, “he said.

Mr. Owusu explained that the introduction of a new currency or withdrawal of same is an important exercise that is always thoroughly planned by the Bank of Ghana.

This, he said enables the public to understand the value and usage of such currencies.

He urged the public to disregard social media stories that suggest that the Bank of Ghana is introducing new currencies without official statement from the bank.

Touching on reports that the one pesewas coin is no longer a legal tender and it’s out of circulation, Mr. Owusu maintained that the coin should be used for transactions and must be accepted by customers.

“That’s why we are here, so help us to circulate those information that those coins are still legal tender and must be used for transactions. The central bank has not demonetize the one pesewa coin,” he maintained.

The Bank of Ghana however said it remains committed to embarking on various sensitisation programmes to educate Ghanaians on how the currency can be handled.

“We want the education out there for people to learn how to handle the cedi not to worn out. That’s why you journalist are here and I want you to help the central bank in that quest. The bank is also doing its part and will make sure all is done to save the cedi”, he added.

Most people are afraid to go out of their rooms especially at night, a resident who pleaded anonymity, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

A local opinion leader who also pleaded anonymity, said, ” A known ritual killer is dead and his people have to perform rituals as part of his burial and funeral rites and so they have refused to announce the death of the person.”

According him,”This Friday, it is believed that every ritual will have to be performed. Please, everyone who stays around Tetsonya, Gorm and Angornya should watch their movements well. Dont walk alone.”

The headman of the area, Mr Nukpese told the GNA on phone that “it is true that someone is dead and will be buried this Friday but as to whether he was part of a human sacrifice group, I can’t tell. You know, these rumours are not new and some of them turn out to be true while others too are mere lies so we the individuals are to be careful.”

What heightened suspicion among the residents was the fact stranger persons were in town, lurking in bushes and less used paths, beckoning children and lone commuters.

“One was in the bush and called a girl of about 10 years to come which doesn’t happen normally here so the little girl ran to the house to informed her parents but they took it as a child’s joke. But last Saturday, a little boy was beckoned on the same path and the child ran to tell his parents. We have been hearing that the dead man is in that group and they have to bury him with human heads.”

The headman also confirmed that his investigations proved that the guy have been calling children as was told but asked the GNA to rubbish the claims of human sacrifice because it is just a rumour.

The Education Ministry has denied reports which seek to suggest it has introduced sexually explicit materials in the Comprehensive Sexually Education (CSE) programme, as part of the new curricula for primary schools in Ghana.

According to Education Minster Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, though the sector Minister on January 30, 2019 launched the CSE in Accra, the definitions and areas to be covered did not include the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) as being reported.

Addressing the press Tuesday, the Education Minister said there were no plans to include that in the curricula of schools.

He said no teacher has been trained to teach sexuality education in schools.

The Ministry, he noted, will not approve a curriculum that undermines the Ghanaian cultural and societal values.

“We have not signed any document of that sort and the resource act given to teachers for the new curriculum does not have in it (LGBT) or comprehensive sexuality education,” he said.

He added that “What CSE includes is already being taught in our schools in social studies, Religious and Moral Education and others.

“The curriculum framework (KG-P6) approved by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) for use in the development of school curriculum, which has been approved by cabinet and published does not include CSE.”

Dr Opoku-Prempeh noted that “the training of 152,000 teachers to teach the new curriculum did not include CSE.

“There are faith-based organisations on both GES and NaCCA’s Governing Council to help ensure that our curriculum is aligned with our values as a nation. We appeal to the general public to exercise restraint and verify the facts of official government policy before making public pronouncements.”

To Dr Opoku-Prempeh, the January 30, 2019 launch of the Comprehensive Sexuality Education was a focus on the need for improved education in HIV/AIDS, teenage pregnancy and child marriage eradication because of their dire consequences on education.

Chris Attoh breaks silence on divorce rumuor https://www.adomonline.com/chris-attoh-breaks-silence-divorce-rumuor/ Fri, 21 Apr 2017 16:15:57 +0000 http://ghana-news.adomonline.com/new/?p=88211 Ghanaian film actor, director and presenter, Chris Attoh at last broke silence on issue related to his divorce.

Recently, it was rumoured that Chris and his Nigerian wife Damilola Adegbite, also an actress, had separated.

When asked if the rumour was true, the celebrated actor declined to answer but rather said both Damilola and their child were doing well.

According to the veteran actor, fusing up work and family responsibilities together as a professional actor can be quite frustrating because he finds himself in different parts of the world shooting movies all in the aim to put bread on the table to feed his family.

He added that, it is a very challenging situation hence the reason most wives becomes angry at their husbands since there is no joy at home when the husband isn’t around.

It is with this that he said; they as a couple have made some adjustments which are very necessary to put the marriage in shape.

“When you’re a professional actor, you’re in South Africa, USA, Nigerian, Sweden, shooting movies. It’s demanding to be travelling here and there. I am a daddy and there is no joy when daddy is not home…

“As a dad, it’s challenging enough to make any woman miss her man and that’s what happened but we have made some adjustments as necessary and there is nothing to worry about…” he told KMJ on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM.

He further urged his fans and loved ones not to worry about the rumors but debunk them as soon as practicable.

“I love Ghana and it feels good to be back home and so Ghanaians should forget about the rumour” he said.
