Student’s coronavirus nightmare as she tests positive ‘twice’ and awaits third result

A student who says she has already tested positive twice for coronavirus and is awaiting results of her third test has spoken of her nightmare.

Adele Jiang, 24, is currently in quarantine at a hotel in the Hubei province, China.

The Masters student at Wuhan University has been admitted to hospital twice and placed in isolation following each time, according to reports.

Adele says she re-tested positive for the virus within 14 days of being discharged.

She has endured two months of either being in hospital or in quarantine.

Now she’s hoping for a negative result by Sunday so that she can finally be allowed to go home.

“I hope I can be given a certain date to be released, instead of doing tests again and again which have made me confused and upset,” Adele told the South China Morning Post.

“I was not even told that I had retested positive until I was sent to hospital and the doctors told me I would be treated there again for the coronavirus,” she added.

Eight members of Adele’s family have also had coronavirus, including her grandfather and uncle.

Adele’s nightmare began on January 20 when she developed a fever.

She was diagnosed with Covid-19 a week later and spent a month in hospital.

But the battle was far from over, as she then claims she tested positive again 12 days later while in isolation -and was sent back into hospital.

Adele remained in hospital – for the second time – until March 21.

In accordance with China’s testing criteria, Adele was only discharged when she met certain requirements and was each time observed in the two weeks that followed while in isolation.

Her story contradicts the belief that it’s highly unlikely for patients to test positive again following recovery.
