The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has advised candidates sitting for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to remain disciplined after completing their papers and avoid excessive celebrations that could put their safety at risk.

During a visit to examination centres in the Ho Municipality, the Minister cautioned students against post-exam misconduct, urging them to stay focused on their future aspirations.

He said the guidance forms part of directives from the President.

“The President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has asked us to advise you that do not over-jubilate after your last paper for the devil to get you as his meat,” he said.

The visit was aimed at encouraging candidates and ensuring the smooth conduct of the ongoing examinations across the municipality.

Mr. Gunu commended the candidates for their discipline and composure, encouraging them to remain calm and confident as they complete their papers.

He also appealed to invigilators and supervisors to uphold professionalism throughout the process to guarantee a peaceful and credible examination.

The Minister was accompanied by the Ho Central Municipal Director of Education, Esther Yeboah Adzimah, and officials from the Education Directorate.

Mrs. Adzimah also encouraged candidates to give of their best and avoid examination malpractices, stressing that success is built on hard work and honesty.

A total of 3,232 candidates are expected to sit for this year’s examination in the municipality.

Across the country, the 2026 BECE is underway, with education authorities expressing optimism for a smooth and incident-free exercise, particularly in the Volta Region.
