A 26-year-old commercial motor rider is in critical condition after sustaining gunshot wounds in a fresh attack linked to the ongoing conflict in the Nkwanta South area of the Oti Region.
The victim, identified as Bright Nkpah, was reportedly travelling from Nkwanta towards Odomi-Challa when he and other road users were ambushed by unknown gunmen.
Eyewitness accounts suggest the attackers opened fire along the route, though the exact circumstances and motive behind the assault remain unclear. The identities of the assailants are yet to be established.
Bright Nkpah is currently receiving treatment at St. Joseph Catholic Hospital, where medical personnel are working to stabilise his condition.
The latest incident has heightened fear and tension in the area, with reports indicating that some parts of the town have been deserted as residents take precautionary measures. School activities have also been disrupted due to security concerns.
Security presence has since been intensified, with joint police and military patrols stepping up operations to restore calm and prevent further violence.
