Chief Executive Officer of Brain Hill International School and Facility Pro Management Services, Mary Anane Awuku, has advised aspiring business owners to focus on building one solid venture before expanding into multiple businesses.
Speaking on The Career Trail programme aired on Joy Learning TV and Joy News, she explained that while many entrepreneurs are eager to diversify, it is important to first understand the foundation of the business they start.
“You start with one first,” she said.
Mary noted that beyond having a business idea, entrepreneurs must also learn how to manage people and systems effectively in order to grow sustainably.
“Understand the people you are even working with, because it is one thing having the idea and another thing knowing how to make it grow,” she explained.
She added that turning an idea into a functioning business requires structure and clear communication for everyone involved.
“It’s very beautiful in our minds as entrepreneurs, but how you put it down on paper for the people you’re working with to see and move in that same direction is a different tactic,” she said.
Mary advised that entrepreneurs should first master one business and build systems strong enough to run even in their absence before considering expansion.
“You start with one, and as you master it and build structures for it to work even in your absence, then you can have the strength to move on to another,” she stressed.
