The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, has assured staff of Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL) that their jobs are secure despite the recent floods that severely disrupted operations at the Accra Digital Centre.

The assurance follows the Ministry’s intervention to reverse a decision by GDCL management to suspend the employment contracts of all staff after the June 29 floods damaged parts of the facility.

At the time, the Ministry described the move as unacceptable and directed management to immediately reinstate the affected employees, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting jobs while recovery efforts continued.

Speaking during a meeting with the Board, management and staff on Monday, July 13, 2026, Mr George sought to allay any lingering fears over possible layoffs.

“We are not laying off any staff of GDCL, whether temporarily or permanently, because of the flood. Every one of you is assured of the continuity of your jobs,” he said.

While reaffirming the government’s support, the Minister stressed that the flood disaster should mark a fresh beginning for the state-owned technology hub, urging management and staff to reposition the company as a commercially viable and financially sustainable enterprise.

“Let’s take this as the reset of the reset. Every staff member will have to play their role because it’s not going to be business as usual,” he said.

He added that the Ministry would continue to support the Centre’s recovery by strengthening corporate governance, improving operational efficiency and restoring long-term sustainability.

Mr George also challenged the leadership of GDCL to leverage the company’s assets to generate profit, insisting there was no justification for the organisation to continue operating without financial success.

“With the assets you hold, there is no excuse for GDCL not to be profitable… It will not fail, not under my watch,” he stated.

Ghana Digital Centres Limited serves as a hub for technology companies, start-ups and innovation-driven businesses operating from the Accra Digital Centre.

Although the June 29 floods disrupted activities at the facility, recovery efforts are ongoing as the government works to restore normal operations and rebuild confidence among tenants, investors and players within Ghana’s digital ecosystem.
