Legal scholar Kweku Azar has criticised comments by some New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicators suggesting that there could be retaliation if the party returns to power in the 2028 general elections.
His remarks follow the arrest of NPP communicator Dennis Miracles Aboagye, with some party communicators warning that actions taken by the current government could be revisited if the NPP regains power.
Reacting in a Facebook post, Kweku Azar argued that the focus should instead be on ensuring accountability and recovering any public funds alleged to have been misappropriated, rather than discussing political retribution.
“EOCO says ₵55M has been looted. Your reaction isn’t, ‘Recover every pesewa.’ Rather, it’s, ‘One day the tables will turn.’ Wei! Da Yie!” he wrote.
His comments appear to reference ongoing investigations by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) while expressing concern over what he described as a shift from accountability to partisan retaliation.
