The attention of the Chiefs and Nananom of Kadjebi Akan has been drawn to a publication suggesting that it has become necessary for residents to understand both the legal and customary processes surrounding the ongoing chieftaincy matter in Kadjebi, and implying that transparency is required to prevent an escalation of tensions within the community.
The Chiefs and Nananom categorically reject any attempt to misrepresent the facts or create a false impression that the entire Asona Clan is engaged in a dispute before the Oti Regional House of Chiefs.
For the avoidance of doubt, the Asona Clan as a whole has not submitted any chieftaincy matter to the Oti Regional House of Chiefs. The matter currently before the Judicial Committee is a petition initiated by an individual petitioner against the current Krontihene, Nana Kwaku Duah II, as well as the late Asona Abusuapanin Mr Seth Akompi and the late Nanahemaa Nana Yaa Asiedua II of Kadjebi Akan.
It is therefore inaccurate, misleading, and irresponsible to portray the case as a dispute involving the entire Asona Clan.
Furthermore, the matter remains pending before the Judicial Committee of the Oti Regional House of Chiefs. In keeping with established legal and customary principles, it is improper and prejudicial for interested parties or commentators to seek to litigate the matter through the media while it is still under judicial consideration. Respect for due process demands that all parties allow the Judicial Committee to determine the issues before it without external interference or sensational commentary.
It is also important to place on record that the same petitioner recently sought an injunction to prevent the Krontihene, Nananom, and the people of Kadjebi from installing the new Queenmother Nana Yaa Asiedua III.
That application was unsuccessful. Following a hearing before the Judicial Committee of the Oti Regional House of Chiefs, the injunction application was struck out, and the petitioner was fined. This outcome speaks for itself and demonstrates that attempts to obstruct the customary processes of the Kadjebiman by the Petitioner has not succeeded.
Consequently, the installation of the new Queenmother, Nana Yaa Asiedua III, proceeded peacefully and successfully. The colourful swearing-in and outdooring ceremonies were conducted without incident and were attended by chiefs, elders, dignitaries, and members of Kadjebiman and traditional areas around Kadjebi in an atmosphere of unity, dignity, and respect for tradition.
With the successful installation of Nana Yaa Asiedua III, preparations are currently underway for the final funeral rites of the late Nana Yaa Asiedua. These important customary obligations are being undertaken in accordance with the traditions and customs of Kadjebi Akan.
Thereafter, the chiefs, elders, and people of Kadjebiman will, at the appropriate time and in accordance with customary procedures, commence deliberations regarding the installation of a substantive Paramount Chief for the area. This process will proceed once the matter brought by the individual petitioner before the Oti Regional House of Chiefs has been conclusively determined.
Finally, we wish to assure the general public that Kadjebi remains a peaceful, law-abiding, and united Traditional Area. Any suggestion that there are rising tensions, instability, or circumstances requiring intervention is wholly unfounded. Kadjebi is open for business, social activities continue uninterrupted, and the traditional authorities remain committed to preserving peace, stability, and respect for the rule of law.
We therefore urge media practitioners, commentators, and members of the public to refrain from publishing or circulating misleading narratives that distort the true nature of the matter before the Judicial Committee. Accuracy, responsibility, and respect for due process must prevail over speculation and sensationalism.
