The Executive Director of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers of Ghana (COPEC) has dared President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo to punish culprits involved in the diversion of premix fuel in the country.
According to him, the diversion of the premix fuel is a test case for the president and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to show enough commitment in fighting against corruption in the country as it promised Ghanaians ahead of the 2016 general elections.
“The government must demonstrate enough commitment in the fight against corruption in the country by using these diversions of premix fuel as a test case” Duncan Amoah told host of Adom FM’s Burning Issues program Agya Abraham on the happenings in the country.
His comment follows reports that there have been at least 200 cases of premix fuel diversions in the country since the NPP government assumed office from January to October 2017, costing the country about 7 million cedis.
According to the report, diversion of the premix fuel products is affecting the fishing communities who are in need of the fuel to embark on its daily operations across the coastal areas.
Duncan Amoah expressed his disappointment in the failure by the sector regulators, National Petroleum Authority (NPA) to sanction those Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and members of the landing beach committee involve in the diversion.
He also accused some landing beach committee members across the country of engaging in what he described as “thievery” in the distribution of the premix fuel product to the fisherfolks in the coastal areas.
“Some landing beach committee members are simply “thieves” when it comes to the distribution of fuel products to fishermen” the Executive Director of COPEC claims.
