The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old man, Gyamfi Christian, in connection with a suspected fake gold scam in the Berekum Municipality.

The suspect was arrested on August 17, 2026, at his hideout in Wamfie, Dormaa East District, following intelligence-led investigations.

The case was reported by Christopher Awuni, 29, a gold aggregator, who told the Police that four men claiming to be gold sellers sold him 110 troy ounces of gold for GH¢1.1 million in July 2026.

The gold was subsequently tested and found to be fake. The items have since been retained by the Police as exhibits.

During interrogation, Gyamfi Christian allegedly admitted his involvement in the transaction and told investigators that the deal took place at Drobo in the Jaman South Municipality.

The suspect also identified three alleged accomplices as Abraham, alias Frenchman, believed to be the leader of the group, Isaac Antwi and Balthazar. The three are currently at large.

Preliminary investigations have further revealed that the group allegedly defrauded another victim of GH¢1.4 million in a separate transaction at Drobo earlier this year.

The suspect remains in Police custody and is assisting with investigations, while efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining members of the alleged syndicate.

The Bono Regional Police Command has meanwhile advised the public to exercise caution when engaging in gold transactions and report suspicious activities to the Police.
