Asamoah, Baffour Gyan mourn late father as family holds one week observance

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan and his brother, Baffour Gyan, joined family members, friends and football personalities at the one-week celebration of their late father, George Gyan Mensah.

The one-week observance was held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the New Gbawe Cluster of Schools AstroTurf, bringing together relatives, friends and sympathisers to honour his memory.

Baffour Gyan was present at the ceremony, while Asamoah Gyan also joined the family and mourners as they observed the traditional rites marking a week since their father’s passing.

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi was among the personalities who arrived at the venue to mourn with the Gyan family.

The gathering provided an opportunity for loved ones and members of the football community to offer their condolences and support to the family during the difficult period.

George Gyan Mensah’s one-week observance attracted a steady stream of mourners throughout the day, with family members receiving guests and sympathisers who came to pay their respects.

The late George Gyan Mensah was 82 years old.
