Former GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi, football legend Abedi Pele and members of the Ayew family were among the prominent personalities who joined Asamoah Gyan and his family to mourn his late father, George Gyan Mensah.
The one-week observance, held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the New Gbawe Cluster of Schools AstroTurf, brought together relatives, friends, football legends and other sympathisers to commiserate with the Gyan family.
Abedi Pele arrived with his sons, Dede Ayew, Jordan Ayew and Rahim Ayew, to offer their condolences to Asamoah Gyan and his brother, Baffour Gyan.
In an emotional moment, Dede Ayew warmly embraced Asamoah Gyan as he consoled his former Black Stars teammate and friend.
Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah also joined the gathering to mourn with the Gyan family.
Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku was also present and signed the book of condolences in honour of the late George Gyan Mensah.
The presence of several leading figures from Ghana’s football fraternity is testament to the close bonds within the football community.
