The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has extended its condolences to former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, his brother Baffour Gyan and their family following the death of their father, George Gyan Baffour Mensah.
The Minister, Kofi Adams, joined the family and sympathizers at the one-week observance of the late George Gyan Baffour Mensah on Friday, August 21, 2026.

The Minister said it was important for the Ministry and the wider sporting fraternity to stand with the Gyan family during the difficult period, particularly given the family’s immense contribution to Ghanaian football.
He acknowledged the role the late George Gyan Baffour Mensah played as a father whose guidance and sacrifices helped shape the football journeys of his sons.

Kofi Adams, on behalf of the Ministry and the sporting community, signed the book of condolence in honour of the late father of the former Black Stars captain.
He also prayed for strength and comfort for Asamoah Gyan, Baffour Gyan and the entire family as they mourn their loss.
The Minister wished the soul of George Gyan Baffour Mensah eternal rest.
