Police in Tema in the Greater Accra Region have gunned down a member of a suspected robbery gang following a shootout at a guest house at Golf City, Monday afternoon.

The armed men were said to have robbed a lotto operator of an undisclosed amount of money, five mobile phones and an Ipad at Community 1.

The police immediately trailed the robbers after the victim filed a complaint at about 1:00 pm.

Police intelligence helped in tracking the four armed men to a guest house at Golf City where they have been lodging.

The robbers then opened fire upon seeing the police but the police responded in equal measure.

Some items found in the room of the suspected robbers

A member of the gang whose name has only been given as Malik, believed to be in his early 30s, was hit in the process and subsequently rushed to the police hospital in Accra.

Briefing the media at the Tema Regional Police headquarters, Regional Commander, DCOP Nana Asomah Hinneh said they were able to retrieve a pistol and a revolver upon searching the lodging place of the suspected robbers.

“Three gang members escaped. After the shootout, we retrieved the stolen items. We also found some substances suspected to be Indian hemp with a pistol and a revolver”, he added.

In the records of the guest house, the one who was shot was known as ‘Stranger’.

“The receptionists did not do due diligence. How can u write ‘Stranger’ as a name of a person who lodged on 31 different occasions, the Commander asked.

By the use of the name ‘Stranger’ and no information about what he does, it was difficult for anyone to know what he was into.

Meanwhile, three other persons including two receptionists at the guest house have been picked up to assist the police in investigations.

According to him, police in Tema are pursuing the other escapees.
