Promising Ghanaian goalkeeper Paul Reverson has expressed disappointment after missing out on Ghana’s final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but insists he remains confident his international breakthrough will come in due course.
The 20-year-old Ajax shot-stopper was named in the Black Stars’ provisional 28-man squad for the tournament but failed to make the final selection.
Despite the setback, Reverson says he remains patient and focused on his development.
“I wish I was in the Black Stars team for the World Cup, but now is not the time. I’m still very young,” he told 3Sports.
Reverson, who currently features for Jong Ajax in the Eerste Divisie, has been widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most promising young goalkeepers. He came through the youth ranks of Zeeburgia and AFC before earning a move to Ajax Amsterdam.
Although eligible to represent the Netherlands, he committed his international future to Ghana. His progress continued in 2025 when he made his debut for Ghana’s U-20 side before earning a maiden senior call-up for a friendly against Mexico in May.
His omission from the World Cup squad comes despite growing expectations around his potential at international level.
Ghana will compete in Group L at the tournament, facing Panama, England and Croatia. The Black Stars begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field, before meeting England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium, and concluding the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
