The Oforikrom Municipal Assembly has launched a manhunt for tricycle operators, popularly known as “aboboyaa” riders, accused of illegally dumping refuse along the Tech to Anloga Junction highway in the Ashanti Region.

The Assembly says the indiscriminate dumping of waste along major streets within the municipality has become a growing sanitation concern, with heaps of garbage posing serious health and environmental risks to residents and commuters.

Residents report that portions of the busy highway and adjoining streets have gradually been turned into unauthorized dumping sites by some waste collectors operating within the municipality.

The situation has raised fears of possible disease outbreaks if urgent measures are not taken to address the problem.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Adom News, the Oforikrom Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Simon Adade, said the Assembly has begun efforts to identify, arrest and prosecute individuals involved in the illegal dumping under existing sanitation laws.

According to him, the Assembly is intensifying monitoring and surveillance across affected areas as part of efforts to restore sanitation standards within the municipality.

Mr. Adade also appealed to residents to support the exercise by reporting tricycle waste collectors caught dumping refuse along roadsides and unauthorized locations.

He stressed that sanitation remains a collective responsibility and warned that offenders arrested during the operation would face the full rigours of the law.

The Assembly believes stricter enforcement and public cooperation will help curb the practice and improve environmental cleanliness within the municipality.
