The Member of Parliament for the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese Constituency, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has assured victims of recent tidal wave destruction at Moree that government will fast-track the completion of the sea defence project to address the persistent coastal devastation.
The MP gave the assurance when he joined officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to present relief items to affected residents in the community.
The items included bags of rice, maize, beans, cooking oil, rubber bowls and buckets, mattresses, blankets, mats and mosquito nets.
In addition to the relief support, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu also donated GH¢40,000 to assist victims affected by the tidal waves.
Speaking during the presentation, he said government would engage the contractor working on the sea defence project to accelerate construction and ensure its completion to protect lives and property along the coast.
He acknowledged the recurring destruction caused by tidal waves in the area and assured residents that their concerns remained a priority.
The MP further warned against illegal sand winning along the coast, describing the practice as a major contributor to coastal erosion and tidal wave destruction.
According to him, government would take strict action against persons engaged in sand winning, stressing that no political intervention would be entertained for offenders arrested in connection with the practice.
Residents of Moree continue to battle repeated tidal wave invasions that have destroyed homes and disrupted livelihoods along parts of the coastline.
