The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has said the party remains unfazed by the arrest and prosecution of some of its members by the current administration.
According to him, the actions taken against party members have rather strengthened their resolve to continue working for the party across their various constituencies.
Speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, Mr. Boakye stated that the NPP would not be intimidated by what he described as attempts to suppress free speech and opposition voices.
“We in the NPP are not intimidated by the arrests. Those being arrested are even stronger and continue working hard in their various constituencies,” he said.
He further urged President John Dramani Mahama to ensure that his administration is not remembered for suppressing freedom of expression.
“It is important for us to let President Mahama know that it will not be proper for his government to be known for standing against free speech,” he stated.
Mr. Boakye also appealed to members of the judiciary to uphold fairness and allow the law to work independently in handling politically sensitive matters.
“We urge our judges that if they want respect from Ghanaians, they should let the law work,” he said.
According to him, some recent developments involving the arrest and prosecution of opposition figures appear politically motivated.
“Some of their dealings are too glaring, as if they have an agenda. That is our problem. That is why we are saying we in the NPP are not intimidated,” he added.
