The Ofori Panin Senior High School (OPASS) community has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of the school’s nurse, Edward Cann, in a motorbike accident in the early hours of Friday, May 8, 2026.
According to preliminary reports, Mr Cann was riding from Kukurantumi towards the OPASS Junction when the accident occurred.
Although investigations are still ongoing, initial findings suggest the crash may have been caused by a mechanical oversight. It is believed Mr Cann may have unknowingly ridden off without disengaging the motorbike’s kickstand.
The kickstand is suspected to have struck the road while the bike was moving, causing him to lose control and crash.
He was rushed to the New Tafo-Akim Government Hospital for emergency treatment but was sadly pronounced dead on arrival.

His body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending preservation and autopsy.
In a statement issued on May 8 and signed by C/Inspector Bridget Opoku of the Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, the Ghana Police Service extended condolences to the bereaved family and the entire OPASS community.
Meanwhile, the motorbike involved in the accident has been impounded at the New Tafo Police Station as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
