Traders at Odawna Market, near Kwame Nkrumah Circle in the Korle Klottey Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, are urgently calling on President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and ensure the completion of a bridge project that has stalled for over three years.
At a press conference, the traders expressed frustration over the delay, describing its severe impact on their livelihoods.
“We are suffering because customers cannot cross to the market easily. Our sales have dropped drastically, and many of us can no longer sustain our businesses,” they lamented.
They revealed that several petitions have been sent to authorities, including the Member of Parliament, Zenator Agyemang-Rawlings, the Municipal Chief Executive, and the Regional Minister, but say no response has been received.

“We have written to all the authorities, including our MP, the MCE, and the Regional Minister, but up till now, we have not had any feedback. It is very worrying,” they stated.
Beyond the economic challenges, the traders also raised serious security concerns, linking the stalled project to increasing criminal activities in the area.
“Because of the situation, criminals are taking advantage. Some of us are attacked on our way to the market, and our bags are snatched. We are no longer safe,” another trader revealed.
Market leaders, Rev. George Ohene Adjei and Anthony Tweneboah, told Adom News that the prolonged delay is pushing many traders to the brink.
“This situation is killing our businesses slowly. If nothing is done urgently, many traders will collapse,” they warned.
They are therefore appealing to government authorities to act swiftly.
“We are pleading with the government to come to our aid and complete the bridge. That is the only way business and safety can return to this market,” they added.
