Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has instructed Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to take immediate steps to fix the widespread problem of poor street lighting across the region.

She noted that although streetlights have been procured and distributed to various assemblies, many communities are still left in darkness.

Speaking at the first meeting of the Regional Coordinating Council for 2026 on Wednesday, April 22, she said her office continues to receive complaints through media reports and social media about inadequately lit areas.

She warned that assemblies responsible for affected communities may be publicly identified if the situation is not urgently addressed.

According to her, proper street lighting is crucial for public safety and also essential for the successful implementation of the government’s 24-hour economy policy.

She further urged all assemblies to carry out comprehensive assessments of street lighting within their jurisdictions, working closely with the Ministry of Energy and relevant road authorities.
