The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nkwanta South in the Oti Region, Joseph Awal Antwi, has assured residents of Ofosu, a farming community, that the Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound in the area will be expanded into a modern healthcare facility to improve service delivery.
The assurance was given during a community engagement visit, where the MCE emphasised that upgrading the CHPS compound will significantly enhance access to quality healthcare for Ofosu and surrounding communities.
He noted that the planned improvements align with the government’s broader agenda of achieving universal health coverage and ensuring that essential services are available at the community level.
Currently, the CHPS compound serves as the primary healthcare facility in the area but is constrained by inadequate infrastructure.
Key facilities such as a modern maternity unit and other essential service points are lacking—a situation residents say continues to affect health outcomes, particularly for pregnant women and vulnerable groups.
As part of the visit, Joseph Awal Antwi also inspected ongoing works on the Nkwanta–Dambai road and expressed satisfaction with the pace of work.
He assured residents that the necessary support would be provided to enable the contractor to complete the project on schedule, noting that improved road connectivity will ease transportation, boost trade, and enhance movement along the corridor for commuters and businesses.
The MCE further pledged to address water challenges confronting the people of Ofosu, describing access to safe water as a priority that requires urgent attention.
In separate comments to Adom News, the Assembly Member for the Tutukpene West Electoral Area, Kofi Tabena, and the community health nurse, Cynthia Oforiwaa Otchie, highlighted challenges affecting healthcare delivery at the facility.
They cited the absence of a maternity block, lack of laboratory services, and inadequate staff accommodation as major constraints, and appealed for swift intervention.
Residents expressed hope that the assurances will translate into timely action, particularly on the CHPS upgrade, water supply concerns, and completion of the road project to support social and economic activity in the area.
