One of the victims receiving treatment at St. Joseph Catholic Hospital, Nkwanta after the recent attack at Odomi in the Nkwanta South Municipality has died.

The deceased, identified as Okumah, believed to be in his late 40s, was among ten people who sustained gunshot wounds during the community attack.

His death brings the total number of confirmed fatalities to four following Thursday evening’s attack, which was reportedly carried out by unknown assailants.

The violence is linked to a long-standing conflict in the area, which has previously resulted in deaths and destruction of property.

The renewed clashes have heightened fear among residents and disrupted daily life in affected communities, including Nkwanta township.

In response to the worsening security situation, the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, acting on advice from the Oti Regional Security Council, has revised the curfew hours.

The curfew, which previously ran from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., has now been extended from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Residents and business operators say the prolonged conflict has severely affected economic activity and social cohesion in the municipality.

Once a vibrant commercial hub, Nkwanta South continues to face insecurity, with many businesses struggling amid the unrest.

Security agencies have intensified patrols and investigations as community leaders and stakeholders call for calm and renewed efforts to end the cycle of violence.
