National Security has arrested four persons at Ayomso in the Ahafo Region for allegedly smuggling 300 bags of cocoa from Côte d’Ivoire into Ghana.
The suspects are reported to have transported the consignment using two trucks with registration numbers AS 5770 26 and GW 6244 13, allegedly moving the cocoa through Kasapin and other communities in the region in an attempt to evade detection.
Briefing the media at Goaso, the National Security Coordinator for the Ahafo Region, Usman Mohammed, said the suspects were arrested following intelligence-led operations carried out in collaboration with the police.

He explained that security operatives monitored the movement of the trucks before intercepting them at Ayomso. Upon interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted to smuggling the cocoa into the country.
The four are currently in custody at the Goaso District Police Command pending further investigation.
He further noted that the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) was invited to test the consignment. The results reportedly confirmed that the cocoa beans originated from Côte d’Ivoire.
