The Base Movement has officially launched its operations in the Adansi Asokwa in the Ashanti Region, calling on Ghanaians to move away from the two dominant political parties, the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party, and support a proposed third political force.
The Movement argues that a new political alternative is needed to drive development and address what it describes as long-standing challenges facing the country.
The launch event, held in Adansi Asokwa, aimed at mobilising supporters across the constituency and expanding the group’s membership ahead of future elections.
Speaking to correspondent Isaac K. Normanyo, Apostle Paul Kofi Agyekum, Chairman of the Kennedy Agyapong Clergy Association and a leading member of The Base Movement, said the group is building a strong national structure with a firm grassroots presence.
He noted that agriculture remains a key pillar of the Movement’s development agenda, stressing the need for increased investment and strategic reforms in the sector to drive national growth.
He also explained that establishing offices in all constituencies is part of the requirements toward achieving recognition as a political party, adding that the group is working towards that goal.
Some supporters at the launch said they joined The Base Movement out of disappointment with both the NDC and NPP, arguing that the two major parties have failed to consistently prioritise Ghana’s development.
Others expressed confidence in the Movement’s future, indicating their support for former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, as their preferred flagbearer.
