A Communications team member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has threatened a court action against the Election Commission (EC) if it yields to pressure and halts the compilation of a new register.

According to George Ayisi, the explanations by the EC for a new register and biometric machines are justified and there was the need for Ghanaians to pull their weight behind the Commission.

“I will go to court if the EC decides to halt the compilation of a new register because the existing register is bloated and needs to be changed,” he said on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

Mr Ayisi argued his decision to back the compilation of the new register stems from a Supreme Court ruling in 2015 which annulled the use of the National Health Insurance Card as proof of citizenship.

“The ruling is enough basis to call for a new register and the EC’s extensive consultation and advice from STL, I believe we need to address the challenges with the register,” he added.
