A Deputy Minister for Information, Pius Enam Hadzide, has described as pure propaganda by a former HIV/AIDS ambassador, Joyce Dzidzor Mensah’s decision to beg foreigners for cash contributions to build a National Cathedral in Ghana.

He accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of being behind the former HIV/AIDS ambassador’s conduct.

According to him, the party is hiding behind Ms Mensah just to ridicule the government’s national cathedral project.

“Joyce Dzidzor is only ridiculing the cathedral project hence we need not pay attention her; she is only engaging in politics and pure propaganda for NDC because they (NDC) are behind the act,” he said on Okay FM as monitored by Adomonline.com.

The former HIV/AIDS ambassador has been captured in a video holding a yellow bowl in a train begging foreigners for cash contributions to build a National Cathedral in Ghana.

The construction of a National Cathedral has become a contentious issue in the country in the face of the fact that the country has only 55 ambulances and a number of abandoned uncompleted health facilities.

In a video that has since gone viral, Ms Mensah, known for her erratic behaviour, could be heard sarcastically highlighting Ghana’s challenges and concluding that the building of the National Cathedral will solve all of Ghana’s problems.

“I am from Ghana and we are building a church for Jesus Christ to come and live in Ghana because we have too many problems,” she said.

Mr Hadzide urged the NPP government not to pay attention to Ms Dzidzor as her actions were calculated to mock the president’s decision to build a national cathedral.

He said moves by the opposition NDC to scuttle the plans of building a National Cathedral will not materialize because President Akufo-Addo was determined to ensure that the monument is built.
