Asante Kotoko have decided to withdraw from the Ghana Football Association Special Competition Tier 1 over lack of clarity on the format for the semi-final clash against rivals Hearts of Oak on June 16, 2019.

The Porcupine Warriors have petitioned the Normalisation Committee (NC) over the decision to play the match at the Accra Sports Stadium.

According to letters sent to the Football Association (FA) by Asante Kotoko, the FA’s own regulations states that the semi-final is to be played on a home and away basis.

However, after the round of games in the group stage, the NC settled on a one-leg semi-final game with group winners playing at home.

Deputy Greater Accra Representative for the club, Nana Kwame Dankwa, in response said this is the end of the road for Kotoko if the decision is not changed.

“The NC weren’t responding to our first letter that is why we have written another one to remind them to do something about the venue and the gate proceeds ahead of our game against Hearts of Oak,” he told Asempa Sports.

“The NC’s response was that, nothing can be done about the venue, so the match will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.

“All we are seeking is the match be played on a neutral ground and the gate proceeds shared equally but per what is happening, it is clear the NC has already taken a decision. If this can’t be done, then they should consider Kotoko out of the competition,” he insisted.

Meanwhile, Brekum Arsenal, which will be facing Asante Kotoko in Tier 2 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium tomorrow, have also raised concerns about the venue; insisting that, if they don’t play at home they will also exit the competition.
