The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Upper West Regional executive elections have been briefly disrupted following an incident involving some delegates from the Nandom Constituency.
The incident occurred at the Wa Technical Institute, where delegates had gathered to elect new regional executives.
The cause of the disruption was not immediately clear, but it temporarily interrupted what had otherwise been a calm and orderly voting process.
A total of 260 delegates from the region’s 11 constituencies are expected to participate in the elections.
At the time of the incident, seven delegates had reportedly cast their ballots.
The Electoral Commission is supervising the exercise, with 28 candidates contesting 11 executive positions.
All 11 positions are being contested, with no candidate going unopposed.
Officials at the venue are closely monitoring the situation as efforts are made to restore normalcy and allow voting to continue.
Security personnel are also present to maintain order and ensure the safety of delegates, candidates and election officials.
