Makafui Kofi Woanyah has been re-elected as the Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after defeating his challenger, Joseph Wallace Homenya, in the party’s regional executive elections.

Provisional results show that Mr Woanyah secured 169 votes, while Mr Homenya polled 148 votes, giving the incumbent a 21-vote victory.

The contest attracted significant interest within the party, with supporters of Mr Woanyah crediting his leadership and involvement in strengthening the NPP’s structures and electoral activities in the Volta Region.

Mr Homenya, however, had the backing of members who believed a change in leadership was necessary to revive the party’s fortunes and improve its appeal to voters.

His supporters argued that fresh leadership could help unite the party, strengthen its grassroots structures and attract new members ahead of future elections.

Mr Woanyah’s victory gives him another mandate to lead the NPP in the Volta Region as the party continues its internal reorganisation and efforts to improve its electoral fortunes ahead of the 2028 general elections.
