Former Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, Dr Clifford Abdallah Braimah, has lost the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Savannah Regional Chairmanship race after narrowly losing to Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana in the party’s regional elections held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana secured 92 votes to defeat Dr Braimah, who polled 88 votes, giving the winner a narrow four-vote margin.
The closely contested race saw both candidates attract significant support from delegates, with Alhaji Sulemana emerging as the new NPP Savannah Regional Chairman.
He will now lead the party’s regional structures and oversee its organisational activities as the NPP works to strengthen its base ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In the other results, Aboagye Kwame won the First Vice Chairman position with 124 votes, while Johnson Kwame Gyinde secured the Second Vice Chairman position with 120 votes.
Seidu Ayuba emerged as Secretary after polling 91 votes, narrowly defeating Mohammed Issah, who obtained 89 votes.
Sulemana Aminu Mayoyo was elected Deputy Secretary with 83 votes, while Raphael Mahama Akati was elected Organiser unopposed.
Ali Abubakar won the Treasurer position with 106 votes, defeating Abu Lutie, who polled 74 votes.
Mohammed Fatahia emerged as Women’s Organiser with 91 votes, beating Losina Barikisu and Mahama Sheila Hanatu, who secured 48 and 41 votes respectively.
Mohammed Shiraz-Deen won the Communications Officer position with 60 votes in a five-way contest.
Alpha Omar Yakubu was elected Nasara Organiser with 95 votes, while Adam Mohammed Mansuru won the Youth Organiser position with 97 votes.
The newly elected executives are expected to lead the NPP’s reorganisation and grassroots mobilisation efforts in the Savannah Region ahead of the 2028 elections.
