Abdul-Aziz Abdu-Rahaman has been elected the new Upper West Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the party’s regional executive elections held at the Wa Technical Institute.
Mr Abdu-Rahaman secured 173 votes to beat his contender, Kantong Alaska, who polled 86 votes.
Delegates also elected executives to occupy the other regional positions as the party begins the next phase of its reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Majeed Liman was elected First Vice Chairman with 198 votes, while Philip Braimah secured the Second Vice Chairman position with 166 votes.
Dr Tanko Daniel Dauda emerged as Secretary after polling 186 votes, with Alhassan Suleman winning the Treasurer position with 160 votes.
Hamid Saana was elected Organiser with 138 votes, while Dodoo Sadat secured the Youth Organiser position with 158 votes.
Yussif Alhassan won the Assistant Secretary position with 200 votes, while Alhaji Muniru emerged as Nasara Organiser with 179 votes.
Nana Sadat was elected Communications Officer with 185 votes, and Minata Moomen won the Women’s Organiser position with 139 votes.
The newly elected executives are expected to lead the NPP’s reorganisation and grassroots mobilisation efforts in the Upper West Region as the party works to strengthen its structures ahead of the 2028 elections.
The elections were largely peaceful, although voting was temporarily disrupted earlier after some delegates from the Nandom Constituency interrupted the process.
The situation was subsequently brought under control, allowing the electoral exercise to continue.
