A 38-year-old man who concealed 44 slabs of illegal drugs in ‘kokonte’ (dried cassava) has been arrested by the Police in the Eastern Region with 44 slabs of compressed.

Iddrisu Yakubu was transporting the narcotic drugs, which were loaded two fertilizer sacks, from Nkurakan to Koforidua Tuesday aboard a commercial when he was arrested by the Police at Nkurakan in the Eastern Region.

He has since Tuesday morning been handed over to the Eastern Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit for further investigation and prosecution on a possible charge of possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority.

Details on the type of drugs and the value have not been revealed by the Police, as the exhibits are being forwarded for forensic laboratory examination.

Yakubu, according to the Eastern Regional Police, admitted ownership of the substances during interrogation and memntioned one Eric Teye of Huhunya as his supplier.

Driver of the vehicle in which the suspect was arrested, Isaac Narh, has been invited to assist the Police in investigations.

Meanwhile, the Police say the suspect has been “detained to assist police trace and apprehend the said supplier”.

In another development, the Police in the region have arrested a 32-year-old man along the Ekye Amanfrom – Tease Highway suspected to be an armed robber.

The suspect, whose name the Police gave as Amadu Umaru, had on him “a long Fulani dagger and a stick”.

“He is presently in Police custody at Donkorkrom for investigation. Messages have been sent round for the robbery victims to proceed to Tease Police Station and lodge their complaints for action” the Police said.
