A man believed to be in his 30s, identified as Majeed Tugah, has drowned in the heavily mined River Bia at Sefwi Suiano in the Suaman District of the Western North Region.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when the deceased reportedly attempted to swim across the river while returning home from a galamsey site.
According to the Assemblyman for the Suiano Electoral Area, Otu Stephen, Mr Tugah entered the river to cross to the opposite side but disappeared beneath the water.
Community members launched a search and recovered his body on Thursday morning.
The body has been handed over to the police and deposited at the Dadieso Private Mortuary for preservation and further investigations.
Speaking to Adom News, Mr Otu urged residents to exercise caution when crossing rivers, particularly during the rainy season, when water levels and currents can become dangerous.
