The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has disclosed that nearly all vehicles procured for District Extension Officers under the previous government’s Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) programme were auctioned before the current administration assumed office in 2025.

Appearing before Parliament’s Committee on Assurances, the Minister said the auction has left many extension officers without official vehicles, affecting their ability to effectively carry out field activities.

“Almost all the vehicles purchased for District Extension Officers under the Planting for Food and Jobs programme were auctioned before we took over,” he stated.

Mr Opoku lamented that the situation has created operational challenges for extension officers who play a key role in supporting farmers across the country.

Meanwhile, the Minister disclosed that government is far advanced in plans to supply birds to Members of Parliament to encourage them to engage in poultry farming.

He said the initiative forms part of the government’s Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti programme, which seeks to boost local poultry production and contribute to improving food security.
