The Ghana Football Association (GFA) says it has no intention of clashing with President John Dramani Mahama after he called on the governing body to restore integrity and public confidence in Ghanaian football.
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum said the association viewed the President’s criticism as a timely reminder to strengthen reforms already underway, particularly in refereeing and efforts to tackle match-fixing.
President Mahama, speaking during an official engagement with Medeama SC, Nations FC and Ampem Darkoa, raised concerns about the state of the domestic game, citing refereeing standards, match-fixing and the need to rebuild public trust while improving talent development.
Responding to the remarks in an interview with Luv FM, Asante Twum said the GFA welcomed the President’s observations rather than seeing them as a confrontation.
“We will not be on a war path with President John Mahama,” he said.
“It’s good that he has spotted some anomalies, and once the First Gentleman of the land makes such a claim, we just have to sit up and ensure the things we’re already doing, we do them better.”
The GFA official added that the association remained committed to improving the refereeing system and implementing measures aimed at making Ghanaian football more vibrant.
