Parents in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region are growing increasingly anxious after the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) failed to account for the Mathematics objective answer sheets of 165 candidates who sat the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The affected students are drawn from six junior high schools in the district: Benguri JHS, Christian Academy, Yaligun JHS, Amazing Grace JHS, Good Friends International JHS and Gumyoko JHS.
With the Senior High School (SHS) placement process already underway, parents fear the delay could leave their children without school placements this academic year.
Speaking to Citi News, affected parent Aruk Gabriel explained that families initially believed the delay was a temporary administrative issue that would be resolved before placement began. However, follow-ups with authorities in Bolgatanga revealed that the Mathematics objective answer sheets could not be located.
Mr Gabriel said WAEC is still searching for the missing scripts, leaving parents in limbo over whether their children’s results will be processed in time.
“Now, are they saying that our children should wait? Should they not go to school until they find the papers, mark them and release the results so that we know whether they will get placement? By then, it will be too late,” he said.
Parents of the 165 candidates are now calling on the Ministry of Education and WAEC to intervene urgently and resolve the matter before the placement exercise is concluded.
