Ghanaian socialite Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has reportedly been extradited to the United States on Thursday morning.
Reports indicate that he left Ghana aboard Delta Airlines flight DL 157.
The extradition comes hours after his lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, disclosed that Kumi had been taken to the Police Hospital in Accra and raised concerns about his client’s alleged denial of access to legal counsel. The lawyer also said he was unable to locate or meet him before he was flown out.
Abu Trica has been involved in a prolonged extradition process after the United States formally requested his surrender.
He is wanted in the US over alleged involvement in financial crimes, including money laundering and fraud schemes said to have defrauded investors of significant sums.
The case attracted public attention in Ghana, with discussions around extradition procedures, citizens’ rights, and the country’s international legal obligations.
Abu Trica had filed an application at the Accra High Court challenging the extradition process, but the court dismissed the application, paving the way for his transfer.
His lawyer had previously raised concerns about the handling of the process, particularly regarding access to legal representation and his client’s health condition.
