Communications Director for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Saanie Daara has denied claims that the return of Kwesi Appiah as the Black Stars coach was based on political considerations.

It was reported by a section of the media that the appointment of Kwesi Appiah was influenced by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government. The reports continued that he was imposed on the GFA by government after the exit of Avram Grant.

This reports, Sannie Daara said have no basis arguing that the FAs search committee mandated to pick Avram Grant’s successor are made up of credible individuals who could bow to external pressures.

The committee headed by the GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi reduced the number of coaches interested in the Ghana job from over hundred to three.

Frenchman Willy Sagnol, AFCON winning coach, Hugo Broos and Kwesi Appiah were interviewed but the former BBC worker believes the best decision was made with clean hands.

“Absolutely there was no government interference. We (GFA) made this appointment based on competency and nothing else.

“Any decision starts and stops with us so therefore when we win we are praised, however, when we fail we will take the blame,” he said.

Appiah has been handed a two-year contract and will start his duties on May 1.
