Kwadwo Akofena Safo, two others arrested over Adwoa Safo shooting incident

Police have arrested Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

According to the Ghana Police Service, the suspect voluntarily reported to the Regional Police Headquarters on June 22, 2026, before being transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to assist with investigations.

Police said a search conducted at his residence and vehicle in Kwabenya led to the retrieval of 120 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of .45 calibre ammunition, 25 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition, several loaded magazines, and two Glock pistols, one of which is registered in his name.

The Police also confirmed the arrest of two additional suspects, identified as Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson, who are believed to be connected to the incident.

All three suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court on Monday, June 23, 2026.
