A family physician of the Kantanka family, Dr Issac Ofori Tieku, has disputed claims by some family members that they were unaware of the funeral arrangements for the late founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo.
His comments come after the family of the late inventor and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission distanced itself from funeral dates circulating in the media.
The family’s secretary, Dr Philip Siaw Kissi, recently stated that no final agreement had been reached on the burial arrangements and that the family was unaware of the July 30 and 31, 2026 dates that had been announced publicly.
According to him, discussions on the funeral arrangements are still ongoing and the announced dates do not reflect a collective decision of the family.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Dr Ofori Tieku insisted that the family had been informed about the funeral plans, including the proposed burial dates, but continued to demand access to the late Apostle’s body.
“The family has been made aware of all the arrangements, but they are still standing on the fact that they want to see the corpse,” he said.
According to him, the disagreement over the funeral arrangements should not have escalated into a public dispute.
“The issue was not supposed to be a big deal,” he stated.
Dr Ofori Tieku further alleged that some family members were working with certain church elders against the children of the late Apostle.
“It looks like the family are conniving with some of the church elders against the children,” he claimed.
He argued that the children of Apostle Kwadwo Safo should play a leading role in decisions concerning the funeral.
“The Apostle has children and they should make the decision for the church to follow,” he said.
Dr Ofori Tieku maintained that the funeral dates had already been communicated to the family during consultations, but some relatives failed to attend the meetings.
“The date was communicated to the family during the arrangements, but they didn’t show up,” he alleged.
He disclosed that preparations for the funeral were already far advanced, with invitations reportedly sent to key stakeholders, including government officials, traditional leaders and other dignitaries.
“We were already making arrangements for the funeral. We have sent out invitations already to the relevant people, including the President, chiefs and others,” he noted.
The family physician expressed hope that the impasse would soon be resolved, stressing that the late Apostle was known for promoting peace and unity.
“We hope that we will be able to come to a conclusion on all this back and forth because the man was a peaceful man,” he said.
