The Ministry for the Interior has suspended the operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited following a shooting incident that left former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Adwoa Safo, with an injury to her left ear.
In a statement issued on June 22, 2026, the Ministry said the suspension takes immediate effect.
The decision follows allegations that personnel of the company used unapproved uniforms, possessed and used firearms and ammunition while providing private security services at Kwabenya in Accra on June 21, 2026.
According to the Ministry, preliminary investigations point to possible breaches of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which govern the operations of private security organisations in Ghana.
The Ministry stated that the suspension was necessitated by initial findings indicating violations of the law regulating the private security sector.
“The usage of unprescribed uniforms, unauthorised possession and use of firearms and ammunition, as well as security accoutrements by private security personnel, constitutes a serious breach with significant implications for public safety and security,” the statement said.
The Ministry further directed all institutions and organisations to refrain from engaging in any business transactions with Kantanka Security Services Limited until investigations are concluded and further directives are issued.
It also instructed the company to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service by providing all relevant information required to facilitate a comprehensive investigation.
The Ministry stressed that the suspension is an administrative measure aimed at safeguarding public safety and security while investigations continue, adding that appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law upon completion of the investigations.
