Veteran Ghanaian actor Fred Amugi has opened up about one of the darkest moments of his life — the death of his daughter.

Angela Naa Momo Amugi succumbed to cancer just nine days before her 21st birthday.

Speaking emotionally about the tragedy, Amugi revealed that his daughter battled the illness for a prolonged period, forcing the family into a routine of constant hospital visits and admissions.

He recalled spending long hours by her bedside as he cared for her through the illness, often dozing off while doctors kept watch over her.

The actor said his employers at the time were understanding of his situation and granted him the flexibility he needed to support his daughter throughout her treatment.

Angela, who worked as a nurse at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, was eventually referred to 37 Military Hospital as her condition worsened.

Fred Amugi recounted that he was pursuing studies at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration and was only two days away from completing his programme when the tragedy struck.

While on campus, he received a call asking him to come to the hospital. Expecting to see his daughter receiving treatment, he rushed there, only to be confronted with the devastating reality that she had passed away.

The celebrated actor described the moment as the worst experience of his life, admitting that the shock left him emotionally paralysed.

Rather than breaking down in tears, he said he became numb from the overwhelming pain of losing a child he had fought so hard to save.

Angela’s death remains one of the most painful chapters in the actor’s life, years after her passing, with Amugi describing the loss as a wound that never truly heals.

He, however, added that the presence of his two remaining sons gives him comfort as he navigates life.
