Residents of Balai in the Kpandai District of the Northern Region are appealing to the government to help provide them with potable water.
According to the residents, they rely on a single borehole for water to survive in the community.

Checks by Adom News revealed that only one out of seven boreholes in the community is functional and serves thousands of people in the community, excluding livestock.
In an interview with Adom News, the residents stated that the inadequate drinking water in the community leaves women fighting every day at the one borehole serving the community.
“We don’t have access to potable water and have to wake up as early as 3 am to queue for one or two gallons of water for our households. We have also been left to the mercy of water-borne diseases, which has caused the death of many children and adults alike,” a resident said.
The residents are, therefore, appealing to government and NGOs to, as a matter of urgency come to their aid to repair the remaining six non-functional boreholes in the community.

The Amankrado of the community, James Kwabena Ntoso, also appealed for the health centre to be built in the Balai community to save pregnant women and sick person in the area.
“If pregnant women are due or someone is sick, that person has to be sent to the district capital Kpandai and due to the bad nature of the roads it becomes difficult.”
The Balai community has more than a thousand people but lack access to potable drinking water and also has no health centre which is a threat to their lives.
